The Play Station Expo '96 took place in the B and C buildings of the Harumi convention center on March 28 and 29. The previous year's Play Station Expo took place in October, so it was only 6 months since the last one. But this event grew to twice the size of last year!

There were 78 vendors with booths showing off their latest Play Station games. There was a main stage in each building where some vendors had special shows, and several vendors had various small events inside their own booths. Some of the events, displays, and new games are described in more detail below.

Main Stage

Most of the shows at the main stage this year were game contests. The Meltylancer show had three seiyuu guests, Iwao Junko, Tange Sakura, and Tezuka Chiharu.

Interesting Games

Some of the games that looked interesting were as follows.

Marriage [Kekkon]

"Marriage is perhaps the most important event of our lives. Now with the name game 'Marriage', you can experience your future." The game will be released in the summer of 1996, the price is 6800 yen.

This game will simulate the one year before marriage. The five girls (Nakamoto Shizuka, Shimura Mami, Takagi Reiko, Arai Kiyomi, and Kato Mika, yes the same five girls from Sotsugyou [Graduation]) are all working at the same company and you have to choose which one is right for you. The guys from Sotsugyou M will appear and be your rivals.

Ranma 1/2 Battle Renaissance

Scheduled to be released in the summer of 1996. 6800 yen. A 3D fighting game. As in the manga, when Ranma gets hit by water, he will change into a girl. Also there will be a story mode, where the cast will talk a lot. There is no mention which cast members talk, or how much they talk..

At PS Expo, they just had a demo of Ryouga moving. [I hate polygon characters!]

Sailor Moon Supers "Shin Shuyaku Soudatsusen"

The Sailor Moon fighting game is already on sale. 5800 yen. You can choose one of the 10 senshi as your player and fight against other senshi. The first pressing has a picture label CD. This game loads VERY slowly.

Wedding Peach "Doki Doki Oironaoshi"

Wedding Peach will come out as a PS game! 5800 yen, on sale 5/31. The pictures have been redrawn, and the girls will appear in outfits that were not in the TV anime. You choose which clothes the girls will wear on certain days, and that will determine how they act when they go out.

At PS Expo, they only had a little part of Momoko working. The other girls were not done.

Noel

The catch phrase is "not digital". Noel will have full motion with voice. Over 6000 cels used for lots of animation. Over 10 hours of voice data! One day in September, you meet three high school girls at a resort. Then they call you on the video phone. From there your digital communication begins. You have 4 months to see if you can end up with a happy Christmas.

Voices by Sakurai Tomo (Shimizu Kaho), Iwao Junko (Sanokura Emi), and Iizuka Mayumi (Okano Yuka).

There were signing sessions at the Pioneer booth for Sakurai Tomo and Iizuka Mayumi. They were VERY crowded, and one had to be there the instant the PS Expo opened to get tickets.

Macross Digital Mission VFX

Game is scheduled to go on sale in July. A transforming, 3D shooting game. 6800 yen.

The game will have an idol group called "Milky Dolls". They were kidnapped from a concert hall, and you have to rescue them. They even sing the ending song! The ending song was written by Iijima Mari.

The cast for "Milky Dolls" is as follows.

character seiyuu
Yuri Tsuwabugi Sakurai Tomo
Kate Inoue Kikuko
Morry Mitsuishi Kotono
Bioletta Imai Yuka
Fresia Namiki Noriko

The ships in this game are polygons.. I hope the girls aren't.

Hotaru

A 3D action game by Pioneer LDC. The character design for Rupy (a cute magical girl with an animal sidekick) is just like Creamy Mami. You guide Rupy through 4 "worlds" with 12 screen stages. The voices are done by Shiratori Yuri, Chiba Shigeru, and Shimazu Saeko. On sale in the summer of 1996.

Meltylancer

A grow your own cute in the galaxy police in 2086. 5800 yen, on sale now. The voices are done by Nogami Yukana, Tange Sakura, Iwao Junko, Tezuka Chiharu, Ikezawa Haruna, Ogata Megumi, and 12 other popular seiyuu. (The voices are slightly different from the NEC PC game.) There will be several CDs coming out. There will be a radio show starting 4/7. There will be a novel coming out in the summer.

There was a Meltylancer seiyuu talk show on the main stage on 3/29.
