[information and comments by Emily K.]

This CD is very jazzy; there are no pop songs on this entire album. Even the ballads have some kind of jazz in them -- like jazz piano, sax solos, etc. As Orikasa Ai's first album, it's very impressive. She doesn't need to act cute -- this CD, if not quite as mature as "Truth," is still very good.

Lyricist Karedou Natsuko also has some very witty lyrics for this CD (especially "Naniwa Otoko ni Te wo Yaite" and "Dansai Kaihou Sengen"); she also wrote the lyrics for the "Tenchi Muyo!" series. I'd say that this is my next favorite Ai album after "Room Service," since that is a good mix of jazz and pop, while this one is full jazz.

Individual track comments:

  1. Koukai wa Suteki
A very brass-filled jazzy song. It's very upbeat. Ai performed this at the Tenchi Muyo! Live in Tour 1996 concerts...
  2. Naniwa Otoko ni Te wo Yaite
The lyrics are very witty for this song. The chorus, Ai sings in Osaka dialect... not bad. ^_^; It's kind of catchy mellow tune with lots of bells.
  3. Handsome
One of my favorite tracks. This is a fairly upbeat jazz tune (not a happy tune) and I love how she says "handsome." ^_^ Very catchy.
  4. Summer Time (Oyaji e no Komori Uta)
A slow and semi-depressing lullaby... this one seems to drag on unnecessarily.
  5. Elegy
A mellow yet fairly cheerful light jazz song. Has a similar feel to "Red Blue" from her "I" album... very easy on the ears.
  6. Milkdoll
Another one of my favorites. More interesting lyrics, this seems like a story about a girl's loves in her entire life. Catchy R&B/jazz mellow song.
  7. Good Times
This one is not as jazzy as the other songs, and I really like this one. It's fairly upbeat without overdoing it and it's semi-cheerful without being cute or annoying, since it has a sense of nostalgia about it. Very catchy chorus.
  8. Dansai Kaihou Sengen
This one is a big-time favorite. It's a monologue and song. ^_^ It's about how a man is a slave and a woman is a master, "ever since the beginning of time." Very misleading song with the pretty jazz piano ballad and these lyrics! ^_^; This sounds best with headphones, as she said on Nowanchantte Say You...
  9. Oni ni Chibusa
Very pretty ballad with jazz piano. This seems like the 1960s downbeat jazz, and it's really good.
  10. Tsuki ni Tragedy (Jazz Version)
For Tenchi fans, this is the jazz remake of the original OVA ED by Orikasa Ai. This last song was worth the entire album without a doubt... great jazz song and great revision.
