  • nyo (first)

This is the first configuration of nyo (¤Ë¤ç), built in 2006.

It used to be my secondary search engine server, through December 2008.

    Silver Stone SG01B-E case
ASUS A8N-VM CSM motherboard (REV 1.10G)
    Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (dual core 2.2 GHz)
    4GB memory (PC3200 1GB x4)
    320GB disk (Seagate ST3320620AS)
    DVD ROM drive (Aopen DVD1648L)
    iCute iGuard

This is the front of the computer, with the iCute iGuard and Aopen DVD ROM drive.

The iCute iGuard is measuring the following internal temperatures: southbridge heatsink, CPU heatsink, case, hard disk. It can also control the speed of the case fan (between 1290 and 2000 RPM). It can control three other fans, but I don't have any more in this case.

This is the inside of the computer. It's very cramped inside.

The Silver Stone SG01B-E case was the smallest case that I could find which could run the dual core Athlon64 X2 without overheating. Unlike my previous computers, I wanted something that didn't take up a lot of space.

    This is the 4GB of dual channel PC3200 memory (1GB x 4).

I put red heatsinks on the two cheap memory sticks.

    This is the southbridge heatsink.

The motherboard didn't come with a heatsink on the southbridge, but I felt it getting pretty hot, so I added one. There is a thermometer taped to the heatsink.

Nyo is running Fedora 8 x86_64 (64bit linux), with inittab default set to run level 3.

I upgraded from Fedora 7 to Fedora 8.

I had to change the following settings in the BIOS in order to get things running smoothly. (The version of the BIOS is 1001.)

memory hole [enable] With memory hole disabled (the default setting), Fedora Core 5 was only able to see 2.7GB of memory. With memory hole enabled, the OS was able to see 3.9GB.
Cool n Quiet [disabled] With Cool n Quiet enabled (the default setting), the CPU was running at 1GHz instead of 2.2GHz. I didn't notice things were running slowly until I ran some benchmarks. With Cool n Quiet disabled, the CPU ran at 2.2GHz.

    Additional software

I've installed the following additional software.
    • A-trek
    • mecab 0.91 + ipadic 2.7.0

Nyo is running the search engine databases for www.akiba-search.net, www.akiba-shop.net, and some other private search services.
