nyu (second)
This was the second configuration of nyu (¤Ë¤å), built in 2007.
It used to be my main file (NFS) server, through December 2008.
The third configuration of nyu
is very different.

The front of the computer has two blue lights along the side,
and the light in the front window changes colors every few seconds.
|
|
The side of the case has a clear acrylic window so you can see inside.
There is also a blue fan (without speed control) that blows air
directly at the CPU.
|
|
At the front of the case, there are two 8cm fans with orange LEDs.
These fans can go from 1400 to 2700 RPM, blowing air at the hard disks.
The bottom disk is the boot/OS disk.
The two other disks are data disks using software RAID1,
and are connected to the SATA214-LPPCI.

|
This is the 12cm fan with red, green, and blue LEDs.
This is at the rear of the case, blowing air out of the case.

Nyu is running Fedora 8 x86_64 (64bit linux).
One 320GB disk is the OS, two other 320GB disks are using RAID1 (md1),
and the two 500GB disks are using RAID1 (md0).
The RAIDed disks are exported via NFS to my other machines.
My disks are configured as follows (from top to bottom in the case).

Fedora 8's installation kernel hangs if the disks are connected to the
Sil3124 at installation time.
So I had to install the OS without these two disks connected,
and create the raid device later.
# fdisk /dev/sdd (partition code "fd")
# fdisk /dev/sde (partition code "fd")
# mdadm --create /dev/md1 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1
# mkfs -t ext3 /dev/md1
# mdadm --detail --scan >> /etc/mdadm.conf
