The Anime Kouhaku Utagassen event was held on December 27, 1999 at the Nippon Budoukan. This was a giant hall holding 10000 (?) people, and it was mostly filled. It was possible to buy tickets at the door. There were plenty of scalpers too.

The emcee for the event was Souguchi Akihisa (announcer), Yamamoto Maria, and Omimura Mayuko. All of the participants came onto the stage, divided into the white and red teams.

white red
Matsumoto Rica Kingetsu Mami, Noda Junko
Mieno Hitomi Iizuka Mayumi
Ohmori Reiko Omimura Mayuko, Kaori
Mizuki Ichirou Horie Mitsuko
Ogata Megumi Yonekura Chihiro
Iwao Junko Sakura Taisen

The captain of white team was Mizuki Ichirou, and Horie Mitusko was the captain of the red team. This event flowed like the real NHK Kouhaku Utagassen. There was a lot of talk (and advertisements), mingled in with the songs.

The event flowed as follows.

  • Matsumoto Rika Pocket Monsters medley
  • Kingetsu Mami Motto Motto Tokimeki
  • Noda Junko Yuuki no Kami-sama

  • Mieno Hitomi Wataru OP song medley
  • Iizuka Mayumi Love Letter

  • Omimua Mayuko, Kaori Drill de Runrun, Kuru Runrun

  • Mizuki Ichirou ?

The last three songs were extras and not part of the competition. Also the songs by Sasaki Isao and Takahashi Yoko were not part of the competition.

The red team won this year.

Goods

There were also many goods on sale, just like last year. Instead of selling inside the Budoukan, the vendors set up shop outside in little tents. The selling of the goods started at noon (4 hours before the event), as they knew that it would get very crowded. There was a crowd right around noon, but it didn't stay crowded for too long. At around 2 or so, it was possible to go buy stuff without waiting in line too much.

They also sold stuff after the event. But the lines were very long. I didn't (couldn't) stay long, so I don't know how long they sold stuff..

I bought the Anime Kouhaku pamphet (2000 yen), the Angel Kiss special CD (1200 yen), and some Kira Kira Melody Gakuen goods (^_^;).

Before the event, Heart Chu (Mieko, Sayaka, and Jun) were at the Banpresto (Kira Melo) goods booth selling the drama CD, fanbook, and video. They even signed it to those who bought it.

After the event, I saw Ohtsuka Mae, Sakurai Sara, Sawai Nasumi, Shintani Sayaka, and Yabuta Naoko at the Banpresto booth. But since we had to hurry to the second Kouhaku event, we couldn't stay long. I'm sure the other girls went to sell stuff too. I missed Nobuko.. (;_;)

H.Doi's opinions

I went to watch the Kira Melo girls.. but since I was up on the second floor, I couldn't see them well without my binoculars. But if I watched the song with the binoculars, I wouldn't be able to cheer for them. So I let Sebastien use the binoculars during the Kira Melo song, and cheered for the girls. Unfortunately, nobody else knew the Kira Melo song, so it was strange doing the calls by myself.. (^_^;)

As for the other songs, I couldn't really get into it that much as the crowd on the second floor wasn't the "hard core" type..
